Earthquakes in the Charlevoix-Kamouraska region in 1998

Goal of the report This report descibes the earthquakes recorded by the seismograph stations of the Charlevoix-Kamouraska region between January 1st and December 31, 1998.
Performance of the
local network
The seismic region of Charlevoix is monitored by a local network of 8 seismographic stations.
This network is integrated in the Canadian National Seismograph Network.
The uptime for these stations was very acceptable in 1998, ranking over 90%.

Continuous data from these stations are maintained in the Waveform Archive.

Taking into account the distribution of stations in the Canadian network, any event with magnitude 3.5 or higher would be located.
Recorded
earthquakes
About 234 earthquakes were located as shown in the map and described in the list.
Besides some isolated events and low magnitude, the large majority of them occurred inside the Charlevoix seismic zone
Felt earthquakes According to the reports of citizens and journalists, four of these earthquakes were felt locally.
Blasts Numerous blasts were recorded but are not shown in the map and the list above.
Induced earthquakes No earthquake induced by the water level variations was recorded during the time period.
